A Star Destroyer was a starship that served as part of the Imperial Starfleet, and later the First Order.

Description[edit]

"The Ravager. It's the only Super Star Destroyer in the Starship Graveyard. I've scavenged parts from it a few times before—I've never seen anything else so huge. You could fly a freighter through its engine wells."
―ReyRey for Rent

Part of the massive fleet of starships in the Galactic Empire's[5] Imperial Starfleet, these vessels were operated by crewmen.[3] The conning tower was topped by shield generators extending upwards like barbell-pierced nipples, and beneath the hull plating[1] the interior was a cavernous[6] labyrinth including a hangar.[2]

Super Star Destroyers such as the Ravager were huge vessels serving as command ships, and contained navicomputer data.[2] The Victory-class was a type of Star Destroyer.[7]

History[edit]

Star Destroyers were known to hover over planets and cities plagued by insurgents, and propaganda showed them over the Imperial Senate complex on Coruscant.[1] The number of Imperial Security Bureau agents aboard an Imperial Star Destroyer was lower than those onboard the Death Star.[5] Star Destroyer components were transported by haulers over Coronet Spaceport on Corellia.[8]

Alexsandr Kallus ensured the loyalty of Captain Hiram Zataire of the Star Destroyer Lawbringer by seducing his daughter into pleasing Kallus.[9] The Star Destroyer[10] Chimaera served as the flagship of Grand Admiral Thrawn until it was sent into the depths of hyperspace by a purrgil attack, and the Super Star Destroyer Ravager served as Grand Moff Randd's command ship.[2] Admiral Haskus Dray's Victory-class Star Destroyer Irruptus was utilized by Isaac Salvatore to travel to Alderaan, where he seduced Princess Leia Organa.[7]

Battle of Jakku[edit]

"Interrogator? That was one of the Imperial ships that crashed here in the battle. It's still out there in the desert. One of the more-intact of the ruins."
―ReyRey for Rent

Commander Quenton served aboard the Imperial Star Destroyer Interrogator, and jettisoned with other officers before the ship went down during the Battle of Jakku.[2] During the ruinous battle over Jakku's hot surface, when the New Republic smashed the Imperial Starfleet, the Star Destroyer crashed into the sands of the isolated desert planet.[3] Quenton survived, but was abandoned when the rest of the fleet fled into the Unknown Regions. The Ravager also crashed alongside the Interrogator,[2] as did the Inflictor from which Thane Kyrell saved Ciena Ree[11] when she attempted to drive it into the surface.[12] These wrecks were found in the Starship Graveyard.[6] The Interrogator[2] remained as the remnant of the battle and a reminder of galactic affairs, and its hulk was rumored to still contain the ghosts of its crewmen who appeared on the vessel's hull at midnight. Rey piloted her speeder past this ancient, crashed Star Destroyer during her daily scavenging, considering it a relic of a bygone age.[3] Rey salvaged scrap from within its cavernous interior to be sold to Unkar Plutt at Niima Outpost, and would become desperate if she scoured its innards but found nothing to trade.[6]

The Old Hope, an Imp bar on Aralia, featured a holo of a Star Destroyer over the Imperial Senate complex on Coruscant, and a Neo-Imperialist holoplacard showing the Inflictor hovering over a planet, among other articles of pro-Imperial memorabilia and propaganda. The bartender Grottil had hair the color of a Star Destroyer's hull plating.[1]

The First Order utilized the Star Destroyer Finalizer, on which several leading figures escaped the Battle of Starkiller Base. Resistance forces attempted to detect the vessel in order to launch a surprise attack, or to track it back to Supreme Leader Snoke's base of operations.[4]
