A mimoid was an entity given form by the Force, similar to a Force spirit, and driven by a Force-sensitive's subconscious. Jedi Master Luke Skywalker experienced several mimoids during his exile on Ahch-To, which took the form of past lovers while he ruminated on his past and present.

Description[edit]

When a Jedi's connection to the midi-chlorians became vivid enough to reach an epitome of mental balance, they were capable of driving the formation of mimoids from the material of the natural world: Luke Skywalker was faced with mimoids formed[1] and conjured from the churning life-force[2] of the Solaris Sea on Ahch-To. These entities, similar to Force spirits, were fleeting, but were driven by the Force-sensitive's subconscious, and could take the form of figures from their past. These manifestations were not spirits or memories, but more like embodiments of the real individuals for as long as the illusion lasted, and could shift into different forms as their viewer reflected upon different memories or broadcast emotional distress through the Force. At times mimoids could speed up the process by splitting into several different figures at once, like a cell undergoing mitotic division. These illusions could incarnate specific memories and were capable of speech, replicating the voice of their embodiments to speak directly to their viewer, sometimes repeating specific words and phrases from years prior. Mimoids would fade away as the viewer's concentration lapsed.[1] Mimoids could appear even to those who had closed their connection to the Force.[2]

History[edit]

Jedi Master Luke Skywalker saw mimoids during his exile on Ahch-To,[1] despite having closed his connection to the Force,[2] which took the form of several notable women, typically lovers, from his past[1] to tempt and challenge his abstinence.[2] Conjured from the material of the Solaris Sea, these mimoids first confronted him as the embodiment of Camie Marstrap, a former crush on Tatooine, and Luke reflected on whether he should have married the girl instead of becoming involved with the Rebellion. In response to Luke's musings, the mimoid shifted into the phantom forms of Nakari Kellen, Farnay, and his former students Nellis, Nashira, and Kira. The sea incarnated Luke's memory of watching the girls frolic in the Happy Grove years before, before the mimoid finally transformed into Luke's final lover before his exile. Luke spoke to the vision, but the illusion faded as Luke's concentration dissolved.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit]

The mimoids first appeared in Das Flute's 2015 work of canon erotic fiction, "The Ways of the Force", and share parallels with concepts in the 1961 novel Solaris by Stanisław Lem, in which mimoids are phenomena which appear out of the surface of the planet Solaris.
