The Lortan Fanatics,[2] or simply Lortans, were a religious cult in the galaxy who worshiped the deity Kopa-Khan, a Man-Hutt hybrid said to be capable of sweeping evil from the galaxy. The Lortans were decimated by the Galactic Empire, and refugees settled on Jakku where they worshiped Niima the Hutt as a living goddess. They established New Reslia, which became a red-light sector, and helped convert slave girls and prostitutes for Old Meru's brothel.

Description[edit]

Lortans believed in their great god Kopa-Khan,[2] a "Man-Hutt" who would return to sweep evil from the galaxy.[1] They believed their savior loved them, and demanded women of the galaxy.[2] They grafted elements of other religions to their beliefs, including those of the many Nikto cults and the t'landa Til Exultation of Ylesia. Lortan refugees later considered Niima the Hutt to be their promised messiah, and worshiped her as a living goddess on Jakku.[1]

Lortan cultists were considered to be zealots and unpleasant individuals, and few planets allowed them to settle. Some attempted to forcibly proselytize to women in order to convert them to their form of worship,[1] believing their god demanded women.[2]

History[edit]

Lortan Fanatics created the pamphlet The Great God Kopa-Khan: Why Our Man-Hutt Savior Loves You and Demands Your Women, a copy of which was kept at the Anchorhead library on Tatooine, and was read by Luke Skywalker prior to his eighteenth birthday.[2]

The Lortan zealots were decimated by an elite Imperial fleet, and the survivors became refugees seeking a suitable world to settle on. Finding it difficult to locate a planet willing to allow them to settle, the Lortans eventually came to Jakku in the aftermath of the Battle of Jakku between the Empire and the New Republic. The cultists considered the world suitable as the location of their Imperial oppressors' final destruction, as well as for the presence of the prominent Hutt Niima.[1]

The Lortan refugees were welcomed by Niima as part of the Hutt's path to success, and her prestige and role in the battle led to the cultists worshiping her as their promised messiah and a living goddess. They established the Sacred Village of New Reslia, and Niima sent out Lortan "missionaries" to Hutt Space following the Kanji Revolt, where their religious fervor helped keep the Hutts' servant species docile—as did the promise of attention from her nubile slave priestesses for good behavior. Niima used the Lortans as cover to bring in slave girls from Tatooine, Ylesia, Nal Hutta, Nar Shaddaa, and Sleheyron, and created the first dedicated brothel on Jakku. The Sacred Village became a red-light sector despite protests by the Church of the Force in Tuanul, and Lortan fanatics worked as both prostitutes in Old Meru's and as the village's informal peacekeeping protection.[1] Lortan slave priestesses ventured to the Sacred Villages to find enlightenment or Jakkuvian prostitutes willing to whore themselves for food.[3]

Serving as a Hutt cult, the Lortans of Jakku attempted to forcibly "proselytize" to the women of Niima Outpost, and attempted to convert the young scavenger Rey to their form of worship until Constable Zuvio's militia intervened. At least one Lortan prostitute worked at Old Meru's in New Reslia, and was spotted by Rey leading a Diollan client into a hut, wearing a traditional metal bikini.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit]

The Lortans were first mentioned in the Legends roleplaying game supplement Galaxy Guide 12: Aliens – Enemies and Allies with an appearance in X-Wing Rogue Squadron 25: The Making of Baron Fel. They were later brought into erotica canon with an appearance in Das Flute's 2018 erotic fiction "Rey for Rent", which detailed their history and presence on Jakku.[1]
