Coldppedas were reptilian creatures native to the Expansion Region planet of Coonee. Living in herds on the zeka-grass plains of the Skeaping Upland, coldppedas were reared by local ranchers and prized for their aphrodisiacal meat and milk. Devin Cant and Nellis grew up as coldppeda ranchers.

Biology and appearance

Coldppedas were distant relatives of the dewbacks of Tatooine, and shared certain similarities with the creatures, including reptilian characteristics, due to a possible common ancestor. They averaged at seven meters in length, though could grow up to twelve meters. They had scaly bodies, lizard heads, and long necks, and their fifteen feet were capped with huge, soft, round hooves adapted for the loamy plains of Coonee. Their blood was suffused with a quality that rendered their meat aphrodisiacal, as was the cows' milk. They carried a farmstead smell resembling that of happabores.

Behavior

Coldppedas lived on the grassy plains of the planet Coonee's Skeaping Upland, grazing in herds on the loamy zeka grass alongside nerfs, shaaks, happabores, and banthas. Some became infested with parasitic brainworms. Their mating habits saw coldppedas go into heat and require breeding.

The galactic coldppeda population shared a possible common ancestor with the dewbacks, existing at a time pre-dating the Old Republic, before the ancestral populations were separated on different worlds by a race of hyperspace conquerors from the Unknown Regions. The creatures only truly thrived on the Expansion Region planet of Coonee, where native farmers and visiting itinerant laborers worked as coldppeda ranchers. Farmgirls who grew up with nothing but coldppedas for company tended to offer their favors to migrant workers.

Both the milk of the cows and their meat were considered aphrodisiacs, and were exported across the galaxy to the Core Worlds, Hutt Space, Bespin, and Zygerrian planets. Some treated coldppeda meat with glitterstim spice to increase its aphrodisiacal quality, while others smoked coldppeda ribs with barbecue techniques. The Hutts considered it an aphrosidiac. Coldppedas themselves were transported offworld, some traveling via ship to Ponemah Terminal.

Devin Cant, future Death Star Trooper with the Galactic Empire, grew up herding coldppedas on Coonee, and learned how to recognize when cows were in heat and in need of breeding. He watched the coldppedas mating, which aroused strange feelings as he grew up, and which his Imperial training helped to suppress. He later likened Princess Leia Organa to a horny coldppeda while double-teaming her with Ansin Thobel aboard the Death Star, the act bringing back memories of watching the beasts mating on his homeworld.

Nellis, future Jedi student under Luke Skywalker, grew up as a coldppeda rancher on Coonee until she was recruited to join his Jedi. Working as a rancher's daughter, she and other itinerant field-hands helped wrassle, slaughter, and prepare the coldppedas. She had to deal with a brainworm-infested coldppeda on one occasion. She and others on Coonee believed that Han Solo and Chewbacca had once worked a season as coldppeda ranchers, and later discussed the truth of the suggestion with Skywalker.

Coldppeda remained a famous export of Coonee during the later years of the New Republic, and coldppeda meat was sampled by the Wookiee Lumpy when he visited the planet with his father Chewbacca. The scavenger Rey once encountered a ship carrying coldppedas from Coonee when it stopped at Niima Outpost on Jakku on its way to Ponemah Terminal, and later associated their farmstead smell with a Gran she was forced to fellate at Old Meru's brothel in New Reslia.

Behind the scenes

The coldppeda was created by George Lucas as part of Han Solo's original backstory developed after the release of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope for Expanded Universe licenses, as noted in The Making of Star Wars: The Definitive Story Behind the Original Film. Although the creatures never appeared in any licensed material, erotica author Das Flute referenced them in several works of erotica canon beginning with his 2015 erotic fiction "The Ways of the Force", alongside their homeworld of Coonee.
